Jake Bauers Announces Update After Removal From Brewers Lineup

Now in his seventh big-league season, Jake Bauers has had by far the best year of his career. The 30-year-old has been the best hitter on MLB’s best team entering Tuesday’s slate of games.

Across 118 appearances, Bauers has posted a .273 batting average, .382 on-base percentage, .884 OPS, 23 home runs and 75 RBIs.

He has also provided manager Pat Murphy with tremendous versatility, routinely slotting in at first base and throughout the outfield depending on what the lineup needs on any given night.

With Milwaukee aiming for a first-round bye in the playoffs, Bauers has been a big reason why they are in this position.

Bauers was not in the lineup for Tuesday’s series opener against the New York Mets. Instead, Andrew Vaughn took over at first base with Jackson Chourio, Garrett Mitchell and Luis Lara filling out the outfield.

Bauers fouled a ball off his foot during Sunday’s Little League Classic game against the Atlanta Braves, which appeared to be the reason for his absence.

Bauers provided an update on his status though, revealing that although his foot is still swollen he is healthy enough to play, meaning the reason he is out of the lineup is simply because the Mets are going with left-hander Zac Thornton (h/t Adam McCalvy of MLB.com).

Bauers has faced southpaws this year, although he does fare better against right-handers when he has the platoon advantage.

The good news is he is healthy enough to play and is dealing with only a minor setback rather than anything that could force a prolonged absence. He should be available off the bench if needed, and his next chance to return to the starting nine will come on Wednesday.
