Right-hander Jake Woodford has opted out of his minor league deal with the Brewers, reports MLBTR’s Steve Adams. Milwaukee has three days to decide whether to bring him back up to the majors or grant him his release.

Woodford spent the first couple months of the season on Milwaukee’s MLB roster. He made 16 appearances and worked 23 1/3 innings in low-leverage relief. The 29-year-old righty allowed nearly seven earned runs per nine. He recorded a below-average 18% strikeout rate with a 7.5% swinging strike percentage. Woodford has never missed bats at the MLB level, bouncing around the league on the strength of his ability to cover multiple innings and attack the strike zone.

Milwaukee designated him for assignment at the beginning of June. Woodford elected free agency after going unclaimed on waivers, then almost immediately returned on a minor league deal. He has surrendered eight runs (seven earned) through 6 1/3 frames with Triple-A Nashville.
