Jameson Taillon makes announcement about playing future

Jameson Taillon saw his time with the Toronto Blue Jays end after 10 innings. However, that may not be the last we see of him on the mound.

Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reported that Taillon will undergo flexor surgery next week and could need an internal brace procedure as well. Should that be the case, Taillon would miss the entire 2027 season. Although Taillon would be 36 years old in 2028, he is not ready to call it a career, telling Davidi that he is not ready to retire and intends to pitch once again.

Taillon's elbow trouble may explain what was arguably his worst season in the majors. He posted a 5.65 ERA and a 1.360 WHiP in his 86 innings between the Cubs and Blue Jays, striking out 76 batters with 32 walks, while also missing approximately six weeks due to a strained left hamstring.

Jameson Taillon could be intriguing addition for 2028

Taillon had generally been a solid third or fourth starter prior to his injury-plagued 2026 campaign. He had posted a 3.99 ERA and a 1.161 WHiP over his 771 innings between 2021 and 2025, striking out 654 batters with 171 walks.

That track record could make Taillon an intriguing option for a team looking to bolster their rotation on a smaller budget. If healthy, Taillon has proven that he can be a strong option in the middle of a playoff-caliber rotation. He may get a chance to show that he can still be a solid major league pitcher if his surgery and rehab go well.
