Jazz Chisholm Jr. got his wish—and made a little noise on the way there.
Major League Baseball announced Thursday that Jazz Chisholm has been named the final participant in the 2025 Home Run Derby. It’s a bold swing from both the Yankees’ second baseman and the league, considering Chisholm has battled through both an oblique strain and lingering neck issues this season. But lately, he’s been making the case with his bat.
On Wednesday night, Chisholm crushed two home runs in the Yankees’ win over Seattle, raising his season total to 17. Since coming off the injured list on June 3, he’s been one of the Yankees’ most dangerous hitters, slugging .614 in June, with 12 homers in his last 31 games.
The push for the Derby wasn’t subtle.
Chisholm had openly advocated for a spot and responded to every power display with a grin and a wink. "I mean, if they call me," he said., "I’d probably be interested." He made it clear he wanted in—and he earned it.
It’s not just the power that’s turning heads. It’s the timing.
Chisholm stepped into second base full-time after DJ LeMahieu was designated for assignment and hasn’t looked back. He’s been healthy, productive, and just flashy enough to remind folks why he was once labeled overrated—and why that label looks silly now.
The Home Run Derby is a celebration of the game’s most electric hitters. It’s hard to find one more electric right now than Jazz.
And now, he gets the national stage to prove it.
