The New York Yankees are still in third place in the AL East despite their red-hot stretch at the plate, but that's bound to change if they keep up their current pace. They tied the MLB record for the most homers in a 10-game span (33) after Thursday's 10-4 win over the Chicago White Sox, via MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. accounted for five of those home runs, and he now has eight in August after hitting a solo shot on Thursday. The 27-year-old has a career-high 26 homers across just 102 games in his first full season with the Yankees, averaging one in every four.

Chisholm oozed confidence after Thursday's contest, via The Athletic's Chris Kirschner.

"We want to win the division. We don't just want to get to the wild-card spot. We're out here playing our best baseball right now," he said. "I feel like this is good momentum we're going into the rest of the season [with]."

"We're never satisfied with second place. We just lost the World Series last year," he continued. "That's second place, and we still weren't satisfied. I don't think we're going to be satisfied coming in second or third in the division. That would be even more upsetting than losing the World Series. Right now, we're going to go out there and win (the division) and then we're going to go win the World Series."

Yankees Must Win Astros and Blue Jays Series

New York is on a five-game winning streak, but four of those victories are against last-place teams. It beat the Boston Red Sox 7-2 on Sunday after losing the first three games of the series, and then swept the Washington Nationals at home before Thursday's win in Chicago.

The Yankees are now 40-26 against losing teams, but 34-34 against squads at or above .500. Additionally, they're a combined 5-15 against the Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, which is largely why they're behind those teams in the division.

However, New York still has time to change that, as it has three games left against the White Sox before facing the Houston Astros on the road and hosting the Blue Jays. The team must take advantage of the talent gap against the White Sox before winning both of the next series.

That way, the Yankees would not only show improvement against winning teams, but they'd change the AL East landscape. They're currently just a half-game behind Boston and four games behind Toronto.

Southpaw pitcher Carlos Rodon (14-7, 3.24 ERA) will start for New York against Chicago right-hander Yoendrys Gomez (3-1, 4.73 ERA) on Friday night.
