Jazz Chisholm Jr Nearing Yankees Royalty With Latest Milestone

Jazz Chisholm Jr has been a gem for the Yankees since he was acquired last July, putting together monster numbers at the plate that exceeded even the Yankees' best expectations for him.

Between this season and last, Chisholm has played 157 games for the Yankees, so nearly a complete season. In that span, Chisholm has clubbed 39 home runs and swiped 45 bases, and should easily achieve a 162-game span with 40 homers and 40 stolen bases.

While Chisholm is a ways off from 40-40 territory this year, having hit 28 homers and swiping 27 bags, he is approaching a milestone that only two Yankees before him have done, and no Yankee has done since 2003.

Chisholm Jr is two home runs and three stolen bases away from a 30-30 season, and he would join Alfonso Soriano (2002, 2003) and Bobby Bonds (1975) as the only Yankees to achieve such a feat, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Chisholm Jr etching himself among Yankee royalty in this way would be only fitting, as he is the author of a phenomenal first full season with the Yankees.

Baseball Digest called the 30-30 club the "most celebrated feat that can be achieved by a player who has both power and speed." To this day, only 47 hitters have achieved this feat, including José Ramirez, Bobby Witt Jr and Shohei Ohtani in 2024.

Chisholm Jr looks to be one of a few big leaguers who could are on the 30-30 club radar, including (stats as of 9/9):

  • Juan Soto - 38 homers, 29 stolen bases
  • Corbin Carroll - 30 homers, 26 stolen bases
  • Jose Ramirez - 27 homers, 37 stolen bases
  • Francisco Lindor - 26 homers, 28 stolen bases
  • Pete Crow-Armstrong - 28 homers, 32 stolen bases
  • Randy Arozarena - 26 homers, 27 stolen bases
  • Julio Rodriguez - 30 homers, 25 stolen bases

The achievement seems to be less rarefied in a league where dual-threat players are spawning at a rapid pace. That does not make it any less exciting to watch, and any less momentous for a player like Chisholm Jr, who has captivated the Yankees fanbase with his electric play style.
