Jeremy Peña Injury: Astros Reveal Latest Update

Houston Astros ' Manager Joe Espada revealed an update on shortstop Jeremy Peña's injury on Sunday afternoon.

Peña has been on the 10-day injured list for the Astros since June 30 with a left calf strain.

The 28-year-old has been ramping back up baseball activities and is set to start a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sugar Land this week.

Peña is coming very close to a return and looks to return to the major league team before the All-Star break. When asked about Peña's status, Espada said, "I think we are in a good spot for him to rejoin the club in the weekend series in Texas, if all goes well."

Peña has struggled to stay on the field this year, as this is his second time on the injured list in 2026. The previous injury was a hamstring strain.

However, he has been stellar in his time on the field.

In 48 games, Peña is slashing .295/.356/.443, good for a .799 OPS, with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and 54 hits. Along with his solid defense at short and his elite baserunning, he would have been well on his way to an All-Star bid if healthy.

With the Astros attempting to come back in a weak American League West Division, the return of Peña could be a huge boost to the offense.

The team is currently sitting third in the American League West with a 44-47 record, but they are only 2 1/2 games behind the first place Seattle Mariners.

We will receive more updates on Peña as he progresses through his minor league rehab assignment and makes his return to Houston.
