Jorge Polanco Powers Seattle Mariners Past Angels

After being named the American League Player of the Week for posting a .471 batting average with four home runs and eight RBI over a five-game span, Jorge Polanco once again was the driving force for the Seattle Mariners with two home runs in a 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels to open the series.

The Mariners started their scoring in the third as Miles Mastrobuni earned a free pass and Leo Rivas hit a single, which set up Polanco at the plate with two on and two out. On the seventh pitch of the at-bat, Polanco unloaded on a 95-mph sinker and launched it to the right-field seats for a 3-0 lead.

Bryce Miller kept the Angels offense in check with a stellar night on the mound, going five shutout innings and only allowing two hits while walking five and striking out six. The Halos did not get their first run until the seventh inning as Logan O'Hoppe launched a solo home run to put LA on the board.

Polanco followed up in the bottom of the inning by taking a low-and-away sinker and crushing a two-run homer to complete the scoring outburst for Seattle.

The Angels looked to respond as Nolan Schanuel and Jorge Soler had RBI doubles in the eighth, but the Mariners bullpen shut down any hope of a Los Angeles comeback and secured the series opener victory.
