Jorge Soler Comments on Trade Rumors

With Los Angeles owning an American League-worst 42-64 record, the Angels are set to be one of the few clear sellers ahead of the trade deadline. As a pending free agent, Soler is one of the organization's most logical trade candidates.

But he has done little to boost his trade value. Through 82 games this season, the Angels' designated hitter is slashing .202/.288/.374 with 12 home runs and 47 RBI.

Soler's numbers have regressed even further in July. Through 17 games this month, he is slashing .152/.222/.258 with one home run and 10 RBI. He has recorded 27 strikeouts compared to just four walks.

On top of that, the 34-year-old has struggled to stay healthy. Soler has been limited to 82 games this season because of a left oblique strain. In 2025, he also played in just 82 games because of lower back inflammation. Yet even when healthy, he struggled, slashing .215/.293/.387 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI.

Soler has been traded four times over his decade-plus career. In 2016, he was traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Kansas City Royals. In 2021, Soler was acquired by the eventual World Series champion Atlanta Braves at the trade deadline and earned World Series MVP honors. At the deadline three years later, he was traded back to Atlanta from San Francisco before the Braves dealt him to the Angels three months later.

Trading Soler to a contender once again could be desirable given his successful track record in the postseason. Across 30 career playoff games, Soler is slashing .275/.389/.638 with seven home runs and 12 RBI.

The Angels also need to strengthen their farm system. Los Angeles has only one MLB Pipeline Top 100 prospect, right-hander Tyler Bremner (No. 42).

While Soler may not yield the same return as Zach Neto or Jo Adell if traded, he still offers value to contenders looking for power and postseason experience. However, he will need to produce more offensively over the next week if the Angels hope to maximize his trade value before the deadline.
