Jose Altuve makes Yankees fans pay after profane gesture

Jose Altuve was not going to be denied a big play despite hearing loud and profane chants from New York Yankees fans during an at-bat in Wednesday’s game at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, N.Y.

During his first plate appearance of the game in the first inning, Altuve was met with a chorus of boos and chants of “F--- Altuve” from Yankees fans, who have never forgotten Houston’s sign-stealing saga.

Altuve, however, immediately silenced his detractors when he turned on Yankees starter Elmer Rodriguez’s 97 mph sinker for an RBI double, putting Houston ahead 1-0.

While that must have been tough to see for Yankees fans, they had the last laugh when it was all said and done in the game. New York grabbed the lead before the end of the inning, 2-1.

Daulton Varsho’s solo home run in the fourth inning leveled the score at 2-2, but the Yankees took control of the contest the rest of the way, scoring seven of the next eight runs in the game for a 9-3 victory.

With that Yankees win, the series is tied at 1-1 heading into Thursday’s finale.

As for the Astros, their loss put them in greater danger of losing their spot atop the American League West standings, as their 66-67 record is just half a game ahead of the Texas Rangers.
