J.P. Feyereisen Elects Free Agency After Dodgers DFA

J.P. Feyereisen chose to become a free agent rather than remain part of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization after he was designated for assignment.

Feyereisen cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he rejected the assignment in favor of reaching free agency. Feyereisen had the autonomy to do so because he both previously had been DFA’d in his career and accrued three years of Major League service time.

The Dodgers designated Feyereisen for assignment on May 25 as one of two corresponding moves to signing Chris Stratton. That made room on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster for Stratton, and Bobby Miller was optioned back to Oklahoma City one day after being recalled in order to activate the right-hander.

Stratton gave the Dodgers a fresh arm for their overworked bullpen, but he’s yet to appear in any of their four games since joining the team.

Meanwhile, Feyereisen is moving on after a second stint with the Dodgers. He originally joined the organization in December 2022, when the Dodgers traded Minor Leaguer Jeff Belge to the Tampa Bay Rays for Feyereisen. At the time Feyereisen was facing a prolonged recovery from right shoulder surgery and he didn’t pitch at all in 2023.

However, he was included on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for the Seoul Series in 2024. Feyereisen pitched for L.A. and Oklahoma City last year before becoming a free agent and signing a Minor League contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Feyereisen appeared in two games for the Diamondbacks before getting designated for assignment and claimed off waivers by the Dodgers.

J.P. Feyereisen’s stats with Dodgers

Feyereisen went 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 10 appearances for the Dodgers last season that were spread across multiple stints as he filled an organizational depth role. While with Oklahoma City in 2024, he was 2-6 with a 5.48 ERA in 33 games (six starts).

Feyereisen made two appearances for the Dodgers this season, going 0-2 with an 11.25 ERA. He had a 9.64 ERA in four appearances for the Comets.
