Juan Soto Sends Blunt Message After All-Star Game Snub

Unless he plans to buy a ticket, New York Mets superstar Juan Soto seemingly has no plans of attending next week's All-Star Game in Atlanta.

As it stands, Soto will miss the All-Star Game for the first time since 2019 after failing to earn a spot on the initial roster. A slow start likely doomed his chances, given that he's currently batting .269 with 21 homers, 52 RBIs, and a .908 OPS for the first-place Mets. Those numbers should have warranted a bench spot, whether Soto played in New York or Colorado.

Theoretically speaking, Soto can still make the All-Star Game as an injury replacement. However, he remained off the roster as of publication, and there is no indication he'll join the NL squad in the coming days.

Most players might publicly dismiss the snub, citing the opportunity to rest or offering a standard answer about wanting to focus on winning. We can't say the same for Soto, who responded bluntly when asked if he was disappointed.

"What do you think?" Soto replied. "It's a lot of money on the table if I make it."

Soto's record-setting 15-year, $765 million contract includes a $100,000 bonus for making the All-Star Game. The winning team also provides a winner's bonus for each player.

First baseman Pete Alonso, shortstop Francisco Lindor, and closer Edwin Díaz will represent the Mets in Atlanta. Lindor earned a starting role via fan voting, while Alonso will come off the bench.

Alonso announced last weekend that he would not participate in the Home Run Derby. He'd previously won the event twice but preferred to take next Monday off.
