Justin Crawford Update: Phillies Remove Outfielder From Lineup Before Marlins Game

The Philadelphia Phillies are entering Saturday’s matchup against the Miami Marlins looking to extend their winning streak to five games. Philadelphia has not lost since parting ways with former manager Rob Thomson earlier this week. The team has responded well under interim manager Don Mattingly.

One of the bright spots during this recent surge has been rookie outfielder Justin Crawford. The 22-year-old is riding a five-game hitting streak, collecting seven hits in 20 at-bats over that stretch, including two extra-base hits and three RBIs.

Crawford owns a .269 batting average, .340 on-base percentage and .716 OPS through 28 games. While he has yet to hit a home run, his value comes from his elite speed and defense.

Crawford was originally listed in Saturday’s starting lineup, hitting seventh and playing center field. But just hours before first pitch, the Phillies announced an updated lineup that removed him from the starting nine.

Adolis Garcia shifted to center field, Felix Reyes moved to right and Garrett Stubbs entered the lineup in left field.

Moments later, the team revealed the reason for the late change. “Justin Crawford is being scratched with a migraine, according to the Phillies,” reported Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

It is unclear whether Crawford will be available off the bench, but given the nature of migraines, the Phillies will likely be cautious. His next realistic chance to return will come Sunday in the series finale.

Crawford remains a key part of Philadelphia’s long-term plans, especially in the outfield. Selected 17th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft, he arrived in the majors with a ton of hype and is finally earning consistent opportunities in 2026.

With the Phillies sitting at 13-19 and trying to climb back into the NL East race, they will need Crawford healthy and contributing whenever he is available. For now, Philadelphia will try to keep its winning streak alive without its young center fielder.
