The Kansas City Royals signed Starting Pitcher Dallas Keuchel to a minor league contract on Wednesday morning. He held a workout last week and will report to Kansas City’s AAA affiliate. If Keuchel makes it to the big leagues, he could make up to $2 million.
Keuchel is one of the best pitchers of his generation. He has fallen on tough times, though. He pitched to a 5.40 ERA in limited starts last season with the Milwaukee Brewers. He is a five-time Gold Glove winner, a two-time MLB All-Star, and won the 2015 AL Cy Young Award. He also helped the Houston Astros win the 2017 World Series.
Keuchel’s MLB career has included stints with the Houston Astros, Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, and Milwaukee Brewers. How will he fit with the Kansas City Royals?
Former Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel and the Kansas City Royals are in agreement on a minor league contract, sources tell ESPN. Keuchel, 37, held a workout last week and was up to 92 mph. He’ll start at AAA and if he gets to the big leagues would make $2 million prorated.

Keuchel joins a Royals team that has been mediocre. They are 45-48 this season. Kansas City’s pitching has been a strength in 2025. They are fourth in ERA, eighth in opposing batting average, and sixth in WHIP. KC’s pitching staff has been led by Starting Pitcher Kris Bubic . He is seventh in the league in ERA. Closer Carlos Estevez is third in the league in saves.
Only time will tell if Keuchel can regain his form from years past with the Kansas City Royals. If he can, it would only improve what is already a strength for the ballclub. This is a low-risk move for a Royals team looking to reach its full potential.
