Kansas City Royals pitchers Connor Seabold and Easton McGee have elected free agency after the Royals outrighted both to Triple-A Omaha, via the MiLB transaction log.

The moves came as part of a broader roster shuffle that also sent pitchers Alec Marsh, Alex Lange, and Mason Black outright to the Storm Chasers, clearing space on the 40-man roster as the Royals begin their offseason following a 69-93 campaign.

Seabold, 30, spent the bulk of 2026 bouncing between three organizations.

He signed a minor-league deal with Toronto in January, opted out and joined Detroit, was traded back to the Blue Jays in May, and was then dealt to Kansas City on June 15 in exchange for minor-league right-hander Denis Samudio and cash.

Across Detroit, Toronto, and Kansas City, he appeared in 21 games and posted a 1-0 record with a 5.25 ERA over 24 innings, striking out 20 and walking 11.

His time in Kansas City was limited by a right lat strain that landed him on the injured list in early July; he was later transferred to the 60-day IL before being activated and outrighted.

A well-traveled arm who has pitched for the Red Sox, Rockies, Rays, Braves, Tigers, Blue Jays, and Royals—plus a 2024 stint with the Samsung Lions in the KBO—Seabold now enters free agency seeking a new opportunity after another season of limited major-league impact.

McGee, 28, arrived in Kansas City even more recently. The 6-foot-7 right-hander was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers for cash on July 14 after being designated for assignment and was immediately optioned to Omaha.

In nine major-league appearances split between Milwaukee and Kansas City in 2026, he posted a 7.15 ERA over 11.1 innings with nine strikeouts and five walks.

Earlier in his career he made brief appearances with the Rays and Mariners; overall he has 35.2 career innings with a 4.54 ERA.

Like Seabold, McGee has extensive Triple-A experience and elected free agency rather than remaining in the Royals’ minor-league system.

Both decisions are consistent with the rights of players who have enough service time or have been outrighted previously.

For the Royals, the moves free roster spots as the club evaluates its bullpen depth and prepares for free agency and the Rule 5 Draft.

Seabold and McGee, meanwhile, join the growing pool of available arms looking for fresh starts in 2027.
