The Toronto Blue Jays added a key piece to their offseason plans with the signing of Kazuma Okamoto.

Toronto signed Okamoto to a four-year, $60 million contract with a $5 million signing bonus. The deal does not include opt-outs.

During a media briefing on Tuesday, Okamoto introduced himself to Toronto fans. He thanked the organization for the opportunity and said he is excited to join the team.

"Hello, everyone. My name is Kazuma Okamoto. Thank you very much for this opportunity. I am very happy to join Blue Jays. I will work hard every day and do my best for the team. Thank you for your support. Nice to meet you. Go Blue Jays! Thank you."

The 29-year-old third baseman arrives from the Yomiuri Giants after nearly a decade as a middle-of-the-order force. He was one of the top Japanese free agents available this offseason.

Despite an injury-shortened 2025 season, Okamoto’s production stood out. He played 69 games and hit .327 with a 1.014 OPS. He added 15 home runs and 49 RBIs. His left elbow injury limited his time, but not his impact.

Speaking after the signing, Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins appreciated the decision, saying,

"The acquisition of Kazuma Okamoto is another significant step for this organization. We definitely got better today.”

Okamoto also impressed on the international stage. At the 2023 World Baseball Classic, he starred for the Japan national baseball team. He posted a 1.278 OPS and homered in the championship game. That performance boosted his profile among MLB teams.

Toronto’s offseason has been aggressive. The club previously signed Dylan Cease and added pitching depth. Okamoto adds right-handed power and contact ability. His approach fits a lineup built on patience and pressure.

The signing also signals Toronto’s growing presence in Japan. It marks one of their biggest moves in the market. For the Blue Jays, Okamoto represents both talent and intent. They are clearly pushing for another deep postseason run.
