Ketel Marte limps off field in Diamondbacks game against Rockies
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Ketel Marte’s return back to the lineup following his ankle injury over the weekend was short lived as he exited the Diamondbacks series opener against the Rockies early.

In the 1st inning, on the 6th pitch of his at-bat, Marte fell to the ground when he popped up a ball to center field. While he did limp down to first base, Marte was then removed from the game, and Kevin Newman subbed in at 2nd base.

Marte originally injured his ankle in the field during the Diamondbacks win over the Phillies on Saturday when Garrett Stubbs dove head first into 2nd base, right into Marte’s ankle.

After the game, Ketel noted that he is feeling okay and will be ready to go after a day off. Now, it appears that the ankle was not fully healed and is still bothering the MVP candidate.

The Diamondbacks are already without Christian Walker and Gabriel Moreno will both be out for at least a couple more weeks.

Stay tuned for further updates.
