The Los Angeles Dodgers made a big splash on Tuesday morning, signing closing pitcher Edwin Diaz to a three-year, $69 million contract.

The defending World Series champions have continued to be aggressive in free agency, and they may have landed the best possible arm for their bullpen. The move was necessary after Los Angeles relievers struggled last season, posting a 4.27 ERA that ranked 21st in MLB.

Diaz arrives as the perfect addition, coming off another excellent year with the New York Mets. The 31-year-old right-hander made 62 appearances, recording 28 saves, 98 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings and a 1.63 ERA.

His dominance was recognized when he won the 2025 Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year Award.

After the big move in MLB free agency, Kiké Hernandez took to social media to react to the news. Hernandez himself remains a free agent, available for any team to sign, though his loyalty to Los Angeles is evident through the connection and support he has built with fans.

On Instagram, he reposted the announcement graphic from MLB and added a message that read, “F AROUND AND FIND OUT!!! ”

He tagged Diaz to make sure the Dodgers’ newest addition saw it. The trumpet emoji is a nod to Diaz’s iconic walkout song, which has become one of the most recognizable entrances in baseball.

Whether Hernandez will ever suit up alongside Diaz is still uncertain, but there is mutual interest between him and the Dodgers, and it is easy to see why.

Hernandez has been a postseason hero for the franchise, winning three World Series titles and delivering clutch performances that shaped those runs.

He has played in more postseason games than anyone in Dodgers history, posting a .245 batting average, .324 on-base percentage, .740 OPS, 11 home runs and 33 RBIs across 92 appearances.

A reunion would not only strengthen the roster but also reinforce the culture of resilience and experience that has defined the Dodgers’ championship runs.

The addition of Diaz already reshapes the bullpen, giving Los Angeles a proven closer who thrives under pressure. Pairing that with Hernandez’s postseason pedigree would energize both the clubhouse and the fanbase, creating a blend of star power and familiarity that has fueled the Dodgers’ sustained success.

For a team intent on defending its crown, the combination of Diaz’s dominance in the late innings and Hernandez’s knack for October heroics could prove invaluable as the 2026 season approaches.
