2026 is the biggest sample size we’ve seen to date for former third overall pick Kumar Rocker. As someone who watched Rocker dominate at Vanderbilt, my hopes are extremely high for what he can be in the MLB.

At the same time, Rocker has dealt with injuries in his career, including Tommy John surgery back in 2023. Rocker has some of the highest upside in baseball at 26 years old, but the Texas Rangers are still waiting for him to put everything together.

With the Texas Rangers taking on the Chicago White Sox at 7:40 PM ET on August 24th, the listed probable starter is Rocker.

Texas Rangers Probable Starter: Kumar Rocker

Rocker has made 22 starts and pitched in 121 innings, resulting in a 4.46 ERA. Keep in mind this is the first time Rocker has pitched over 65 innings in an MLB season.

Rocker also has 0.8 WAR, a 1.397 WHIP, a 4-10 record, 109 strikeouts, and 48 walks. On the Baseball Savant page of Rocker, he has a very low pitching run value at -4 this year (26th percentile).

Chicago White Sox Probable Starter: Jose Urquidy

Jose Urquidy has only pitched in 16 innings this year, and the veteran spent 6.1 of them with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being traded.

Urquidy has yet to start a game this year, but his limited sample size has him with a 5.06 ERA, -0.3 WAR, 1.500 WHIP, a 2-1 record, and 17 strikeouts to two walks.

Texas Rangers vs Chicago White Sox: Game 1 Location (August 24th)

This series will be played at home for the White Sox, which is Rate Field.

Without much data on Jose Urquidy this year, we’ll just be looking at the away numbers for Kumar Rocker. In away games this year, Rocker has a 3.97 ERA and a 1-1 record in 45.1 innings.
