The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned Kyle Hurt to Triple-A Oklahoma City as they continue to set their roster for the start of the 2026 regular season.

Hurt has had a solid spring as he converts to a full-time reliever. The right-hander began his career as a starting pitcher, but has mostly been used out of the bullpen in his limited MLB experience.

Hurt has pitched 7.1 innings in Cactus League play while striking out 12 hitters and walking just two. Hurt also allowed three runs on six hits, giving him a 3.68 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.

Hurt spent most of the previous two seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery he underwent in July 2024. Hurt made it back on the mound at the end of last season and posted solid results on his rehab assignment.

Due to the Dodgers’ bullpen issues last year, the club even considered adding him to their postseason roster, although that never came to fruition.

Instead, he continued to work on preparing for the 2026 season and reported to camp with no limitations.

He was viewed as a potential option to begin the season with the Dodgers, but he was optioned to continue getting more work after throwing so few innings over the last two years.

Now 27 years old, Hurt made his MLB debut during the 2023 season. Hurt was included on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for the Seoul Series last year.

Over parts of the last two seasons, he’s gone a combined 0-1 with a 1.04 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in four games (one start).

Dodgers roster cuts

The Dodgers roster now stands at 42 players, so they still have to cut 16 more players before the start of the season. They currently have 22 pitchers and 20 position players, and they will likely open the season with 13 of each — not counting Shohei Ohtani as a pitcher.
