Kyle Karros' game-tying homer helps Rockies edge Diamondbacks

Kyle Karros hit a game-tying homer before leaving with an injury, Tomoyuki Sugano pitched six strong innings, and the Colorado Rockies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 on Tuesday in Phoenix to even the three-game series.

Hunter Goodman tripled to lead off the seventh off Kevin Ginkel (5-4) and scored on Mickey Moniak's one-out sacrifice fly to break a tie and give Sugano (12-5) his eighth victory in his last nine decisions.

Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte homered in the first inning off Sugano, but he gave up only three singles in his final five innings and retired 10 of the last 11. He struck out five and did not walk a batter in his second win over the Diamondbacks this season.

The Rockies have beaten the Diamondbacks three times this season, all in games started by Sugano.

Jordan Romano pitched around Nolan Arenado's one-out single in the ninth for his 11th save, his seventh with Colorado. Pinch-runner Jorge Barrosa stole second with two outs before Romano struck out Tim Tawa.

Karros hit a two-run homer off Arizona starter Mitch Bratt after Ezequiel Tovar's single to tie the game with two outs in the sixth, but Karros was removed after colliding with shortstop Tovar on Marte's infield single in the hole in the last of the inning.

Cole Carrigg had two hits and a stolen base for the Rockies, who had lost 10 of 14.

Marte, Arenado and Tawa had two hits apiece for the Diamondbacks, who had won three of four. Tawa had two stolen bases

The Diamondbacks are 19-10 since July 9, tied with Atlanta for the best record in the NL.

The Diamondbacks dropped into a three-way tie for the second NL wild-card spot with Philadelphia and San Diego. The Padres were the only one of the three to win Tuesday.

Carroll hit a 422-foot homer on Sugano's sixth pitch in the first and Marte hit his 377-homer five pitches later for a quick 2-0 lead. It was the first time the D-backs have homered twice in the first inning this season.

Nolan Arenado followed that with a triple but did not score, and the Diamondbacks had only three other runners in scoring position the rest of the way.
