On July 12th, Austin Riley left in the middle of the Braves contest against the St. Louis Cardinals with an injury that was later revealed as an abdominal strain. He was added to the IL the next day, with Nacho Alvarez taking his place on the active roster.
The severity of the injury was never really discussed as the Braves headed into the All-Star break, but ahead of Atlanta’s three-game set with the Yankees to kick off the second half of the season, Riley had some good news to share with the media regarding his injury.
#Braves' Austin Riley (lower abdominal strain) rehabbed back home in Memphis area during break, said he's feeling much better and that this isn't nearly as severe as the oblique strain he had a year ago.

Any type of muscle strains must be treated with caution. The last thing the Braves want is for Austin Riley to come back only for the issue to flare up within a couple of games of returning. He’ll need to prove he’s 100% before the club gives him the green light, but it sounds like there’s a great chance he’s back with the club next week, perhaps even as early as Monday, when the Braves begin a three-game set with the San Francisco Giants.
