ESPN's Laura Rutledge revealed a little factoid about herself today that she's only slightly "very embarrassed" about.
In an interview with sports media insider Andrew Marchand, Rutledge revealed that she once made a fake Twitter account that supported her husband, former baseball player Josh Rutledge, while he was playing for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 2014 to 2015.
"This is a true story. This handle might still exist. When (Josh) was with the Angels I made a fake Twitter. I'm admitting this, I know this was wrong, I haven't done it since. The name was like, Billy Halo 76 or something. Billy Halo only tweeted positive things about Josh Rutledge and then the occasional Mike Trout tweet because I was like 'Shoot somebody's gonna figure this out!' So if anyone said anything negative about Josh, Billy Halo would find them and go 'You're wrong, etc.' and back it up with stats," she admitted. "But that
Rutledge admitted that she hopes her husband doesn't find out because then he'll be mad at her.
Taking to X sometime later she reiterated that:
"I’m waiting for Josh to see this and be very embarrassed by me," she joked.

It didn't take long for online sleuths to track down the account. Here are some of the highlights from the old account:
"#FreeJoshRutledge worked! Rutledge to Red Sox, though I think he could have been real valuable to Angels if they had ever called him up," Billy Thomas, aka @halobilly27 aka Laura Rutledge wrote on July 27, 2015.
"Why do they keep recalling Green? I want them to give this guy a shot #FreeJoshRutledge, she wrote a few days prior.
The account was only active between May 29 and September 1 of 2015 but still has 33 followers. She certainly kept her word that she wouldn't use it anymore.
Josh Rutledge played six years in Major League Baseball between 2012 and 2017. He was a third-round pick by the Colorado Rockies in 2010 and made his debut for the team in 2012.
Rutledge would play for Colorado from 2012 to 2014 before being traded to the Angels, but never took to the plate for them. He was traded to Boston in July 2015 and played for them until 2017. He played minor league baseball for the San Francisco Giants in 2018 and retired after that season.
