Los Angeles Dodgers Designated Hitter Shohei Ohtani has had a historic May at the plate. His 13 May home runs are the second-most in franchise history in a calendar month. Only Pedro Guerrero(June 1985) and Duke Snider(August 1953) have more home runs in a month with 15 apiece.
Coming off an MVP season, Ohtani has not missed a beat in 2025. He is leading the league in home runs and runs scored. He is also second in the league in OPS. Will Ohtani be able to finish May well for the Los Angeles Dodgers?
Most home runs in a calendar month, Dodgers history:
1985 June Pedro Guerrero: 15
1953 Aug Duke Snider: 15
2025 May Shohei Ohtani: 13
2017 June Cody Bellinger: 13
2004 Aug Adrian Beltre: 13 https://t.co/W8bvE1xCVh— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) May 27, 2025
Los Angeles is leading the National League West at 34-21. LA’s offense has been stellar. That is to be expected with a lineup full of All-Stars. They are leading the league in batting average, second in home runs, and second in runs scored. Ohtani is not the only Dodgers player that has gotten off to a strong start. First Baseman Freddie Freeman is second in the league in batting average and Right Fielder Teoscar Hernandez is sixth in RBI.
LA’s pitching staff has been mediocre this year. They are 19th in batting average, 13th in opposing batting average, and 16th in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto has been good this season. He is top 10 in the league in wins, ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP.
Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers return to the diamond this afternoon for the final game of their three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians. Ohtani has three more games this month to try and make franchise history with the long ball.
