The Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals played this afternoon in Missouri. What ensued was a pitcher’s duel for the ages. LA Starting Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto tossed six scoreless innings lowering his ERA to 2.20 on the year. That is 10th-best in the league. Cardinals Starting Pitcher Erick Fedde tossed 5.1 scoreless innings. Both men walked away with a no-decision. It would be up to the bullpens to decide the winner of this encounter.
St. Louis got on the board first in the bottom of the 8th on an infield single by Right Fielder Alec Burleson. Los Angeles responded in the top of the ninth by tying the game on a wild pitch. St. Louis quickly answered with a walk-off single by pinch-hitter Nolan Arenado. The Cardinals prevailed 2-1.

Both Los Angeles and St. Louis have gotten off to strong starts this season. LA holds a slim lead in the National League West at 38-26. The Cardinals sit 4.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs in second place in the National League Central.
Los Angeles has struggled on the mound this season as many of their key places have spent time on the IL in 2025. Luckily for the Dodgers, they feature one of the most talented lineups in recent memory. Designated Hitter Shohei Ohtani is second in the league in home runs. First Baseman Freddie Freeman is third in batting average. The St. Louis Cardinals also have a strong offense. Second Baseman Brendan Donovan is 11th in the league in batting average.
Yamamoto and Fedde will look to carry this momentum into their next starts. Yamamoto’s next scheduled start is on June 13 at home against the San Francisco Giants. He has yet to face the Giants this season. He struggled against San Fran in his lone start against them last year. He surrendered 4 earned runs over 5.2 innings of work. Fedde’s next start is June 13 on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers. He surrendered 7 earned runs against Milwaukee when he faced them back in April. Yamamoto and Fedde will look to build on masterful performances on Saturday.
