Lourdes Gurriel Jr. reaches 100 career home runs with early blast for Diamondbacks
Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. gave the Diamondbacks an early lead by hitting his 100th career home run into the left field bleachers. He launched a 384-foot slider off Spencer Howard in the 2nd inning to make it a 1-0 game.

Of his eight home runs this season, six have been hit at Chase Field, despite his home batting average being significantly lower than on the road in 2024 (.181 vs. .285).

Gurriel Jr. was traded to Arizona before the 2023 season, along with Gabriel Moreno, from the Toronto Blue Jays. Last year, the 30-year-old achieved career highs with 144 hits, 65 runs, and 24 home runs.

Although 2024 hasn’t matched his previous year’s performance, Gurriel Jr. is still on pace to hit over 20 home runs if he plays 145 games this season.

The only other Diamondbacks players with 100 or more home runs are Christian Walker and Ketel Marte.
