The Seattle Mariners had a sound victory against the Oakland Athletics in the series opener. Luis Castillo played a vital role in their success after throwing four scoreless innings. The Mariners ace gave up just two hits, two walks, and recorded six strikeouts.
Despite his strong outing, the manager pulled Castillo from the mound after four innings and replaced him with Bryce Miller. The Mariners went on to win the game with a 9-2 final score. However, Luis Castillo was unhappy with the decision to step down.
The Mariners star showed his frustration in the dugout as he disagreed with the call. Castillo threw his gloves and jersey.

Can’t recall ever seeing this kind of frustration in his nearly four years with the Mariners.

It’s not often that fans see Luis Castillo frustrated. It was a pretty rare sight in the dugout, but he clearly disliked the umpire calling him out despite his strong performance.
The Mariners are trying a few things out this season to sustain. They almost made the World Series last year, but they clearly understood that they needed to do more. The club recently began the piggyback strategy, in which two starting pitchers share a game.
There’s no room for the bullpen, giving the team more opportunities to win. The workload is split between two starters, while the bullpen is rested. At the same time, both starting pitchers are not worn out in most cases.
It turns out that Luis Castillo is not a fan of the latest strategy. The Mariners are doing it to manage Miller’s workload strategy and keep Castillo stretched out as a starter.
Miller picked up the win for the Mariners as Castillo’s pitching was basically a no-decision. That’s probably the reason why the Mariners veteran was upset.
Luis Castillo has struggled on the mound this season after posting a 1-5 record and a 5.90 ERA.
