Athletics pitcher Luis Severino spent just one season on the New York Mets, but they made an impression on him. The right-hander played a big role in their 2024 NLCS run, going 11-7 with a 3.91 ERA in 31 regular-season appearances and 1-1 with a 3.24 ERA in three playoff starts.
Severino spent eight years with the New York Yankees before that, notching a 54-37 regular-season record with a 3.79 ERA and a 1-4 record with a 5.15 ERA in the playoffs. The Yankees made the ALCS in 2017, '19, and '22, the ALDS in '18 and '20, and the Wild Card in '21.
While Severino spent much more time in the Bronx, he preferred one key aspect of the Mets' operation, via Foul Territory TV.
"The trainers with the Yankees were unbelievable, but the Mets are a different level," the 31-year-old said. "The guy that I worked with was Joe Golia. Since I got to the Mets in spring training, the first day we pulled up our routine. From that day through the playoffs, we didn't miss a touch. He was always on top of everything."

Golia is in his fourth season as the Mets' head athletic trainer after spending four years as the assistant athletic trainer.
Severino signed a three-year, $67 million contract with the Athletics on Dec. 6, the largest deal in team history. He leads a starting rotation that includes Jeffrey Springs, JP Sears, Osvaldo Bido, and Mitch Spence.
Severino sports a 0-1 record with a 5.40 ERA in two starts this spring.
