Many predict this will be the Braves next manager

There hasn’t been a single leak from the Braves regarding their managerial search. Not one insider has reported anything substantial since the process began nearly a month ago. However, with most of the other managerial vacancies across baseball now filled, speculation is mounting that Dodgers bench coach Danny Lehmann could be the favorite to take over in Atlanta.

“My guess is the delay in Braves hiring a manager has less to do with casting a wide net than with waiting for Danny Lehmann to finish bench-coaching w/ the Dodgers in the WS. I think he’s the one they want, and it would signal a commitment to cutting-edge analytics and process,” Braves beat reporter speculated on Twitter/X.

Scott Coleman of Battery Power echoed similar sentiments.

“Conventional wisdom would lead you to think the longer the Braves go without naming a manager, the more likely it’s Danny Lehmann. It could always leak but the team wouldn’t announce it until after the World Series Obviously they’d be free to announce Lombard/Flaherty whenever.”

Reading between the lines, it’s not hard to see why many have landed on Lehmann as the likely choice. He and Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos worked together during Anthopoulos’ time with the Dodgers in 2016 and 2017, and the timing fits. It would make sense for the Braves to announce their new hire once the World Series wraps up, and Lehmann is as qualified as they come, helping guide Los Angeles to back-to-back Fall Classics as their bench coach.

Still, as of now, this remains speculation. The Braves are one of three teams still without a manager, joining the Padres and Rockies, and not all of them can hire Lehmann. It’s also not uncommon for these searches to stretch into November. Anthopoulos said from the outset this would be a deliberate and thorough process, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that predicting Anthopoulos’ moves is never easy.
