The Seattle Mariners made their deepest run in franchise history in 2025. Unfortunately, the season ended in heartbreak after a Game 7 loss in the ALCS to the Toronto Blue Jays. Regardless, the future of the Mariners remains bright, especially with the breakout of Cal Raleigh.

The 28-year-old catcher’s fifth year in the big leagues was incredibly memorable as he emerged as one of the top players in the league. He earned his first All-Star selection and followed it up with an impressive showing during All-Star Weekend, winning the Home Run Derby in front of a national audience. That success came as no surprise, given that Raleigh led all of MLB in home runs with 60 on the year, emerging as the top power threat in the league.

He set a new record for most home runs in a single season by a Mariner and also broke the all-time mark for home runs by a catcher.

In October, Raleigh was named a finalist for the American League Silver Slugger Award at catcher. On Friday, Louisville Slugger revealed that Raleigh had been chosen as the winner, beating out fellow candidates Shea Langeliers of the Athletics and Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals.

The Mariners shared Raleigh’s accomplishment on their social media. “History-making, record-breaking Congrats to Cal Raleigh on winning his first @sluggernation #SilverSluggerAward! #TridentsUp,” the team wrote on X.

This marks the first Silver Slugger of Raleigh’s five-year career. He remains a frontrunner for the AL MVP award, which is expected to be a two-man race between him and New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge.

Although he is best known for his power, Raleigh does not lack in any part of his game. He broke out as an elite defensive backstop in 2025, winning both a Gold Glove Award and the Platinum Glove Award, which is given to the best overall defensive player in each league.

Raleigh was also one of the most complete hitters in baseball last season. He posted a .247 batting average, .359 on-base percentage and .948 OPS across 159 games, the majority of which he played behind the plate. He also served as a designated hitter at times to give his legs a break.

Fortunately for Seattle, the club locked him up long-term with a six-year, $105 million contract extension signed in March of 2025. That deal is already looking like a strong investment given his production. Raleigh will look to build on his breakout year in 2026 and try to finally lead Seattle to its first World Series appearance in franchise history.
