The Seattle Mariners fell just one win short of reaching the World Series for the first time in franchise history this year. Although Seattle came up short, the future remains bright, especially in the starting rotation, which is one of the best in MLB.

A huge reason for that is right-handed starting pitcher George Kirby, although he did take a step backward in 2025. The 27-year-old owned a 4.21 ERA and a 10–8 record across 23 starts this year. Kirby still managed to collect 137 strikeouts in 126 innings of work, showing that his pitch arsenal remains effective and that he simply needs to do a better job limiting hard contact.

Unfortunately for Seattle, Kirby struggled in the MLB playoffs, posting a 6.00 ERA over four appearances and failing to record a win.

Kirby’s offseason is underway, and he recently shared some exciting personal news. Earlier in November, he got engaged to his partner Cameron.

In a joint post on Instagram, the couple wrote, “11-2-25. From the day we met I always knew you were the one. I am so happy you are my fiancé and can’t wait for you to be my wife. I love you so much my beautiful fiancé. Cheers to forever ❤️.”

The slideshow included photos of Kirby proposing, the couple embracing each other and the engagement ring.

While Kirby’s engagement marked a joyful milestone, his focus will soon return to preparing for next season. Despite Kirby’s postseason struggles, he will remain under team control for the next three seasons.

Seattle is hoping that a full offseason to reset can help him return to his peak form, which saw him finish top 10 in AL Cy Young voting and earn an All-Star selection just two years ago.

Kirby missed the first two months of the 2025 season due to right shoulder inflammation, which may have contributed to his struggles on the mound. He just wrapped up his fourth year with the Mariners and will have a chance to bounce back in 2026. Since debuting in 2022, Kirby has seen firsthand how badly the city wants a World Series title, and he will be a key part of that pursuit moving forward.
