Coming off a disappointing 76-86 season and a third-place finish in the AL West, the Seattle Mariners are in the market for a new manager.
After dismissing Dan Wilson from his managerial duties, the Mariners are looking for a new skipper this offseason. According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand , Seattle is reportedly planning to meet with Houston Astros manager Joe Espada.
Espada, 51, has managed the Astros for the last three seasons, guiding them to a 256-229 regular-season record. He's led them to two playoff appearances as well, although his postseason record is 0-4.
Espada has proven to be a capable manager, helping Houston stay competitive despite losing several stars to free agency and trades during his tenure. He has playoff experience as well and seems like a good fit for the Mariners, especially if they can poach him from one of their division rivals.
Time will tell if Seattle hires Espada or goes in a different direction, but he's clearly qualified and a worthy candidate to replace Wilson.
