The New York Mets (34-22) are tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers (34-22) for the third-best record in the NL, but not everyone on the roster is performing to their potential. An example is third baseman Mark Vientos, who is slashing just .235/.305/.385 with six homers and 21 RBI through 50 games.
The 25-year-old is coming off a career year in which he slashed .266/.322/.837 with 27 homers and 71 RBI across 111 contests. Although he's taken a step back this season, he did smash a three-run homer in the Mets' 9-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox (18-38) on Wednesday.
Vientos addressed why it's taken longer for him to heat up this season, via SNY.
"I don't know, to be honest with you," the 6-foot-3-inch, 185-pounder admitted. "I ask myself that too. But I can't really feel sorry for myself, I've got to keep working."
Vientos' work might finally be paying off, as he's now on a three-game hitting streak.

New York's only other run of the game was off a double by Pete Alonso in the ninth. The loss broke a four-game win streak.
The Mets' nine runs allowed were also the most they've given up in a game all season. They coughed up eight runs in their losses to the Washington Nationals (24-30) on April 27 and the New York Yankees (34-20) on May 18.
Up next is a home set with the Colorado Rockies (9-46) before hitting the road to face the Dodgers and the Rockies again.
