Marlins Call Up Catcher for Nationals Game

The Miami Marlins have selected catcher Logan Driscoll’s contract from Triple-A Jacksonville ahead of Friday’s matchup with the Washington Nationals, adding another option behind the plate during a late-season depth crunch.

Driscoll was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash on Aug. 19 after triggering an assignment clause in his minor league contract. He now moves onto Miami’s active roster as the club deals with an injury to catcher Joe Mack.

The Marlins announced the move through their official X account, confirming Driscoll’s addition while also announcing that infielder Graham Pauley was optioned to Jacksonville and right-hander William Kempner was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Driscoll gives Miami another experienced catching option after the club traded Liam Hicks to the Rays at the Aug. 3 deadline. That move left rookie Joe Mack carrying more of the workload before his shoulder issue further reduced the Marlins’ depth at the position.

The 28-year-old Driscoll hit .250/.343/.368 with three home runs and 22 RBIs in 43 games at Triple-A Durham before the trade. He also appeared in 15 major league games for Tampa Bay in 2024.

Miami has also been using Agustín Ramírez at catcher and designated hitter. With Driscoll now joining the active roster, the Marlins have another option as they navigate the final weeks of the regular season.

Pauley returns to Jacksonville after hitting .194/.228/.306 in 115 plate appearances for Miami this season. Kempner’s move to the 60-day IL follows his elbow surgery and creates the necessary roster flexibility for the Marlins.

The Marlins enter Friday at 64-64 and sit third in the NL East, while the Nationals are 61-68. Miami holds a 2.5-game advantage over Washington in the division standings.

Driscoll’s arrival gives the Marlins timely catching depth as they face the Nationals and continue their push through the final stretch of the season.
