Marlins' Sandy Alcantara sets franchise record

The Miami Marlins have a new franchise leader for all-time innings pitched.

Right-hander Sandy Alcantara took the mound on Saturday afternoon against the Los Angeles Angels, and a strikeout in the top of the third inning put him alone at the top of the franchise record books for innings pitched.

Alcantara surpassed Ricky Nolasco for the all-time franchise lead in innings pitched at 1,226 innings. Not only is Alcantara now the franchise's all-time leader in innings pitched, but also in strikeouts with 1,048.

Without an injury, Alcantara will make start No. 198 of his Marlins career later this season and will surpass Nolasco for the most games started all-time by a Marlins pitcher.

Sandy Alcantara has been a staple in the Miami rotation

Despite being thrown around in trade rumors for the past several seasons, Alcantara has remained with the franchise and continued to be a mainstay in the rotation.

There is a possibility that changes, though, as Miami has a $21 million club option to make on Alcantara ahead of the 2027 season.

Where could Sandy Alcantara land if he leaves?

With Alcantara never having suited up for any other team besides the Marlins in his career, landing spots are a bit unpredictable.

In the past, teams such as the Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays have been linked to Alcantara in trade rumors. Both of those teams will have rotation spots to fill next season and could make sense should Miami decline Alcantara's player option.
