After starting the season 26-34, the Miami Marlins have swam back to ten games above .500 while holding second place in the National League East division (tied with the Philadelphia Phillies) at 52-42.
Back-to-back series sweeps against the Seattle Mariners and Athletics have led the team to gain confidence in themselves after the rough start.
This shows clearly in the statement from right-handed pitcher Tyler Phillips following the Marlins sixth straight win.
Phillips praised the team for their commitment to having fun while also giving their all on the field everyday.
The 28-year-old breakout pitcher sent a message out to the league about the team's fighting spirit, stating, "“We’re the Fightin’ Fish, man. We’re going to fight to the last pitch…”

Phillips first gained recognition after slapping himself on the way to the mound as a way to fire himself up. That fire has continued on to the 2026 season, as the starter/bulk reliever has torn through batters with a 3.28 ERA in 74 innings.
His emotion showcases the Marlins team as a whole, as they have come alive as a young and scrappy team who is now fighting for a playoff spot.
The team has won 16 of their last 20 games.
According to MLB Trade Rumors on X, the Marlins are expected to buy at the trade deadline and keep many key pieces such as right-handed pitcher Sandy Alcántara.
The Marlins start a series at home against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night as they attempt to keep their momentum going into the All-Star break.
