Max Fried was angry with umpire over pitch clock violation

New York Yankees pitcher Max Fried received a pitch clock violation early in his team’s game against the New York Mets on Sunday, and the left-hander was not pleased about it.

Fried had a frustrating start to his outing at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y. After the first batter reached on a bunt that was misplayed by the pitcher, Fried was called for a pitch clock violation on a 2-2 count against Francisco Lindor.

Fried clearly felt the violation should not have been called, and he walked toward home plate to angrily state his case to umpire John Bacon.

To his credit, Fried did not let the bunt mishap and pitch clock violation derail him. He returned to the mound and struck Lindor out swinging on the next pitch. Fried then got the next two batters to fly out, so there was no damage done in the inning.

The Yankees entered Sunday on a six-game losing streak and looking to avoid being swept for a second consecutive series. It appeared their string of bad luck was going to continue early on, but Fried settled down quickly.

While Major League Baseball’s pitch clock rules have been very popular among fans, players tend to not react well when they are called for violations.
