The 2025 MLB season is almost upon us and so is a crucial year for the Philadelphia Phillies. Fresh off an NL East title, but subsequent loss in the NLDS, the Fightins are once again hunting for Red October and an elusive third World Series Championship.

Over the next few days, we'll be taking you through each player with a chance at making the Phils' active roster and discussing expectations for all of them. Next up is

Name: Jacob Tyler Realmuto

Number: 10

Position: Catcher

Throws: Right

Bats: Right

Build: 6'1", 212 lbs.

Age: 33 (Turns 34 on March 18)

Acquired: 2018-19 Offseason Trade with Miami Marlins

Socials: Instagram

2024 Stats: Slashed .272/.329/.453 with 14 HRs, 18 doubles, and 47 RBI in 99 games. Realmuto missed around six weeks with a right knee injury last June and July - the first time in his career that he missed any significant time. In the NLDS, he went hitless with three walks over four games.

2025 Projections: A healthy Realmuto is crucial to the Phils' success this year, both defensively and in the lineup. He's fully prepared to catch as many games as needed, even with the expectation that it may be less than the 130+ he's been used to annually in Philly.

"I don't have a specific number I want to catch," Realmuto told NBC Sports Philadelphia's Corey Seidman. "There's no perfect answer, no way to know how my body is going to feel."

But while he continues to manage a stacked pitching rotation, one big question has emerged: will this be J.T.'s last season in Philadelphia? He's a pending free agent and, even as a 35-year-old one, could be a tempting target for other franchises looking to get the most out of their pitching staffs. He's openly expressed an interest to remain where he is, but there has been no update on extension talks this spring. Right now, the only thing on his mind is bringing home a title.

"I want to win," Realmuto told Seidman. "At the end of the day, if the Phillies win and we have a good season, the contract stuff is going to take care of itself."
