Meet the 2025 Philadelphia Phillies: INF Rodolfo Castro

The 2025 MLB season is almost upon us, and so is a crucial year for the Philadelphia Phillies. Fresh off an NL East title, but subsequent loss in the NLDS, the Fightins are once again hunting for Red October and an elusive third World Series Championship.

Over the next few days, we'll be taking you through each player with a chance at making the Phils' active roster and discussing expectations for all of them. Next up is an under-the-radar prospect with a second chance...

Name: Rodolfo Castro

Number: 29

Position: Infield

Throws: Right

Bats: Switch

Build: 6'0", 205 lbs.

Age: 25

Acquired: 2023 Regular Season Trade with Pittsburgh Pirates

Socials: Instagram

2024 Stats: Slashed .209/.274/.313 with two home runs, one double, and seven RBI in just 19 games for AAA Lehigh Valley. Castro missed almost the entire season, not appearing with any regularity until late July. He had offseason surgery to address a UCL tear in his right thumb.

2025 Projections: After barely playing at all last summer, expect Castro to start back in the minors. He is a name to watch if for nothing else than the fact he hits from both sides of the plate - a feat that is becoming rarer by the year. He's also still rather young and is a utility infielder, with time split between 2B, SS, and 3B in his pro career. After being rushed to the bigs with the Bucs, Castro is far from a lost cause in the Phils system.
