The 2025 MLB season is almost upon us and so is a crucial year for the Philadelphia Phillies. Fresh off an NL East title, but subsequent loss in the NLDS, the Phillies are once again hunting for Red October and an elusive third World Series Championship.

Over the next few days, we'll be taking you through each player with a chance at making the Phils' active roster and discussing expectations for all of them. Next up is one of the six southpaws expected to start the year in Philly...

Name: Tanner Banks

Number: 58

Position: Pitcher

Throws: Left

Build: 6'1", 205 lbs.

Age: 33

Acquired: 2024 Regular Season Trade with Chicago White Sox

Socials: Instagram

2024 Stats: 2-3, 3.98 ERA with 78 Ks, 25 BBs, and a .313 opponent OBP over 63 appearances (72.1 IP). He joined the Phillies at the Trade Deadline, appearing in 22 games with them down the stretch. Banks also pitched one inning in NLDS Game One, allowing one run while striking out two.

2025 Projections: Banks is not as much of a lefty specialist as fellow Phillie José Alvarado, but that may actually work to his advantage as a set-up man. His best numbers came in the 7th and 8th innings, and with Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez gone to the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals, respectively, he could be one of the better options in the bullpen for that role.

Banks spent a long time in the minors, so even in his 30s, he's just entering his final year of pre-arbitration. He'll be pitching for both another shot at the postseason and his first significant pay raise this season.
