Meet the 2025 Philadelphia Phillies: RHP Seth Johnson

The 2025 MLB season is almost upon us, and so is a crucial year for the Philadelphia Phillies. Fresh off an NL East title, but subsequent loss in the NLDS, the Phillies are once again hunting for Red October and an elusive third World Series Championship.

Over the next few days, we'll be taking you through each player with a chance at making the Phils' active roster and discussing expectations for all of them. Next up is a trade deadline addition entering his first full season in the organization...

Acquired: 2024 Regular Season Trade with Baltimore Orioles

2024 Stats: 2-8, 2.73 ERA 89 Ks, 50 BBs, and a .317 opponent OBP across 25 starts (95.2 IP). Split time between the Orioles' AA and the Phillies' AA and AAA teams and also made his Major League debut on September 8th in Miami.

2025 Projections: Johnson is an interesting case. Originally a Tampa Bay Rays draftee, he's already had Tommy John Surgery, but it's done little damage to his velocity, which can still border triple digits. He's currently the number 12 prospect in the Phillies system and the 5th-rated pitcher of that group, and depending on what happens with some big-league arms, it's not out of the question to see him get called up over the summer.

Still, with only five games under his belt at Lehigh Valley and one MLB appearance where he was way out of his depth, Johnson needs a bit more seasoning. Some command issues began to pop up late last year, so that's something to keep an eye on in the early parts of 2025.
