Mets ace Jacob deGrom throws live batting practice Wednesday

It's been almost three months since New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom landed on the injured list with a shoulder issue. Wednesday morning brought another update on his ongoing attempt to return to the mound at Citi Field at some point this summer.

It was reported last week that deGrom could make his season debut "a few weeks" before the Aug. 2 trade deadline. deGrom's 2022 injury woes began in early April when he was scratched from a spring training start with the shoulder problem.

He went for an MRI -- which showed "considerable healing" -- later that month and has been working his way back since. deGrom made just 15 starts in 2021, with his final one coming in July, before he was shut down for the year due to an elbow injury.

Fellow ace Max Scherzer is also currently on the IL -- battling an oblique ailment. The first-year Mets starter has been limited to eight starts this season.
