Mets Announce Bo Bichette Move After 94 Games

The New York Mets return to action on Friday looking to carry some momentum into the All-Star break after taking two of three from the Kansas City Royals.

The series marked one of the club’s better offensive stretches of the season, with the Mets scoring 25 runs in three games to secure their first series victory in nearly a month. Despite sitting at 40-54, New York showed signs of life heading into its weekend set against the Boston Red Sox.

Much of that resurgence has coincided with improved production from several key hitters, including Bo Bichette. After a difficult start to his first season in New York following his offseason departure from Toronto, Bichette has begun finding more consistency, batting .303 with five RBIs and four runs scored in eight games this month.

He started all three games against Kansas City, including Thursday’s series finale, where he contributed to the Mets’ 7-3 victory with an RBI single during a five-run fifth inning.

Bichette gave the Mets a brief injury scare during the game. The veteran infielder appeared to tweak his leg while running out a ground ball late in the game, but he remained in the game and helped New York close out its first series victory since mid-June.

On Friday, though, Bichette was left out of the Mets’ starting lineup to face Boston. It marks the first game Bichette has missed all season after making 94 consecutive appearances.

Bichette has been an important piece of New York’s infield since signing a three-year, $126 million contract during the offseason. The two-time MLB All-Star has been working to rebound from his slow start as the Mets look to gain ground entering the second half of the season.

The Mets open their three-game series against the Red Sox at 7:50 p.m. ET at Citi Field. Boston enters the matchup riding a six-game winning streak and sitting just 2.5 games out of an American League Wild Card spot.
