The New York Mets are hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night in the first game of a three game series at Citi Field. These two teams met in the National League Championship series last season, with the Dodgers winning in six games. LA would go on to win the World Series.
New York entered this contest two games back of the first place Philadelphia Phillies, while the Dodgers sit atop the National League West. With a three-run third inning, LA jumped out to a 3-0 lead over New York on Friday.
Ahead of LA’s three-run frame, the Mets unexpectedly replaced starting left fielder Brandon Nemo with Jeff McNeil.
Nimmo was 0-for-1 at the time of his removal, striking out against Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw in the second inning. Shortly after his removal, the Mets made an official injury announcement on X.
"Brandon Nimmo was removed from tonight's game with a stiff neck," the team wrote.

Nimmo is amid a 2-for-20 slump at the plate. This is part of a larger 10-for-50 skid that has seen his season average drop to .212 in 179 at-bats. Not counting his first big league season in which he appeared in just 32 games, Nimmo's .674 OPS this year is the worst of his career.
The Mets entered Friday just 5-5 in their last 10 games. This inconsistent play has seen them fall to second place after sitting atop the NL East standings for most of the season. This series against the Dodgers will be a real test.
