The New York Mets have lost three of their first five games to begin the 2025 MLB season. Outside of Monday's game against the Miami Marlins, every contest has been decided by 1-2 runs. New York hopes to even its record Wednesday afternoon in the series finale against the Marlins.
Looking to build on positive momentum from 2024, a season in which they reached the NLCS before losing to the eventual world champions, the Mets made several offseason moves. Not done adding to their organizational depth, New York announced more moves on Wednesday.
In an official announcement on X, the team shared the signings of Jon Singleton and Niko Goodrum.
"We have signed first baseman Jon Singleton and infielder Niko Goodrum to Minor League contracts," the team announced. "Both players will report to Triple-A Syracuse."

Both players will report to Triple-A Syracuse.
Singleton had a career year last season for the Astros. In 119 games, he slashed .234/.321/.386 for a .707 OPS. His OPS+ of 103 put him slightly above league average. He also registered a positive bWAR for the first time in his four-year major league career. Singleton will likely be used as a bench option and extra first base insurance for slugger Pete Alonso if he is called up.
Goodrum spent last season with both the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels. During his seven-year major league career, the 33-year-old has slashed .224/.297/.383 for a .680 OPS. Goodrum enjoyed his best season in 2018 with the Detroit Tigers, where he hit 16 homers and had a .747 OPS.
The switch hitter offers more positional versatility than Singleton as he has logged games at every position except pitcher and catcher in his MLB career. The Mets will appreciate his value on an infield that is dealing with injuries to starter Jeff McNeil and bench option Ronny Mauricio.
