Fan favorite outfielder Brandon Nimmo's monster 9-RBI night on April 28 didn't just tie New York Mets franchise records, it put him in the company of Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani and just 29 others.
After opening up Monday night's rout against the NL East rival Washington Nationals with a single and a run scored, followed by a pop out, Nimmo broke out from the sixth inning on.
That turning of the tables began with a three-run home run against Nationals reliever Colin Poche. Then, one inning later in the seventh, Nimmo rocketed another homer off relief pitcher Cole Henry, except this time the bases were loaded for a grand slam.
A 2-RBI double and a ground out closed the book on Nimmo's 9-RBI night, and it's amazing just how rare a feat this has been in MLB history.
According to MLB.com Mets correspondent and beat writer Anthony DiComo, "Brandon Nimmo is the only player in Mets history to record at least 9 RBI and 11 total bases in the same game."
DiComo then added that "there have been just 31 such instances in [the] MLB over the last 100 years, including Shohei Ohtani last season."

There have been just 31 such instances in MLB over the last 100 years, including Shohei Ohtani last season.
Unless there's an MLB player out there who has accomplished this historic achievement more than once, that makes Nimmo one of just 31 baseball players to record at least 9 RBI and 11 total bases in a game since 1925.
That is something worth celebrating, even if Nimmo has slumped to start the 2025 campaign, batting .218 with an OPS of .679.
After the April 28 win, the Mets sit atop the entire league at 20-9. They'll look to continue their hot start on April 29, hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field.
