Mets can’t stop making DFA roster moves

It’s been a bad season in Queens, and the New York Mets may be sellers at the trade deadline. Notably, they have made many DFA roster moves over the last month, showcasing the constant change on the Mets roster. The team just made another move, according to Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo.

“The Mets have DFA’d five players in the last four days. Today it’s Dan Hammer, who was called up yesterday but never pitched, per source. His DFA follows those of Guillo Zuñiga, Alex Carrillo, Matt Seelinger and Jared Oliva, all of whom made 0 or 1 appearances this year,” DiComo wrote on X.

With players like Luis Robert Jr. injured, there have been more signings. Yet, many of the players the team has signed have also not worked out, and they have DFAed them quickly. Recently, the Mets made multiple roster moves and have constantly rotated players in and out.

Some of the current injuries on the Mets include Mark Vientos, Marcus Semien, Clay Holmes, Austin Warren, Reed Garrett, and Tylor Megill. That has often forced the Mets to make tough decisions. Notably, they have been among the hardest-hit teams in terms of injuries. As a result, the Mets are last in the NL East with a 40-54 record.

With the MLB All-Star Break approaching, the Mets will likely have to decide whether to bring back players or begin shipping them out. There might be a point where they decide to change their approach. Ultimately, with the season likely lost, it might not be the last time the Mets make multiple DFA roster moves.
