After their victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, the New York Mets have won five of their last seven games. Furthermore, they are now once again at the top of the NL East standings, though they are tied with the Philadelphia Phillies.
With just a handful of games remaining before the All-Star break, the Mets will look to continue riding their momentum. Additionally, they are expected to get some reinforcements soon as well, which should help them to remain strong the rest of the way. This includes pitcher Kodai Senga, who is on the 15-day injured list after suffering a hamstring injury in June.
On Wednesday, manager Carlos Mendoza provided a major update regarding the Japanese native that should bode well for the team.
Senga was having a fantastic season before suffering his injury. Fortunately for him and the Mets, he is trending towards making his return sooner rather than later, just before the All-Star break.
According to Mendoza, Senga "should be good to go" and ready to make his return on Friday against the Kansas City Royals.

Prior to his injury, Senga had an ERA of 1.47 in 73.2 innings pitched across 13 starts. Additionally, he had a SO/BB ratio of 2.26 and a WHIP of 1.113. If he can continue to perform at this high a level upon his return, he will provide a huge boost for the Mets. As New York aims to keep their momentum going, it is crucial that they get as healthy as possible, and Senga's return will help them do exactly that.
