A somewhat familiar face is returning to the New York Mets.
In a slew of roster moves, the Mets announced that they're claiming veteran infielder Zack Short off waivers from the Detroit Tigers and are transferring Jorge Polanco (Achilles) to the 60-day injured list.
The Mets also officially placed Christian Scott on the 15-day IL (retroactive to June 12) with right hip impingement and have called up Tobias Myers and Jonathan Pintaro from Triple-A Syracuse. Reliever Daniel Duarte has also been optioned to Triple-A.

Short was designated for assignment by the Tigers last week and will need an active roster spot once he reports to the Mets. He appeared in 23 games for Detroit this season, going 3-for-36 (.167) at the plate with two RBI.
The 31-year-old has ties to the Mets, though they were short-lived. Short was claimed off waivers by New York in November 2023 and wound up making the Opening Day Roster ahead of the 2024 season. Short, though, went just 1-for-9 (.111) with two walks in 10 games with the Mets and was designated for assignment on April 26. The Amazins' traded the infielder to the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations shortly thereafter.
Since leaving the Mets, Short has played for the Red Sox, the Atlanta Braves, the Houston Astros and the aforementioned Tigers.
Short is now back with the Mets as a depth option for their infield, as Polanco continues to try and make his way back to the ballclub. Polanco has been on the IL since April 14 due to a nagging Achilles issue.
