Dan Hammer is set to make his big-league debut after the New York Mets selected the right-hander's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, one of three roster moves the club announced ahead of its series finale against the Kansas City Royals at Citi Field.
To make room for Hammer, the Mets optioned right-hander Tobias Myers to Triple-A Syracuse and designated outfielder Jared Oliva for assignment. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com first reported the moves.
Hammer, 28, has split the 2026 season between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse, posting a 2.16 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 38 strikeouts across 33 1/3 innings. At Syracuse, he owns a 1.77 ERA in 17 appearances and has touched 98 mph. He works primarily with a four-seam fastball in the 95-96 mph range and a 90 mph cutter.

A 13th-round pick by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Pittsburgh, Hammer spent six seasons in the Orioles and Rays systems before Tampa Bay selected him in the 2025 Rule 5 Draft. He signed a minor league deal with the Mets this past offseason and will make his MLB debut when he takes the mound.
Myers, 27, was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in the Freddy Peralta trade this offseason but has struggled in New York, posting a 6.21 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 32 strikeouts across 42 innings. This is at least his second option trip to Syracuse this season.
Oliva, 30, was claimed off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on June 23 and never appeared in a game for the Mets before Thursday's designation. He holds a .175 career batting average across 66 big-league plate appearances with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Giants.
The Mets enter Thursday at 39-54 and fifth in the National League East, with no off day until the All-Star break.
Hammer gives New York a high-velocity option at the back of a taxed bullpen heading into the break.
